The grading structure of Nippon Judo Schools is divided into two main categories. There is a syllabus for students of 14 years and younger, and secondly, a syllabus for students of 15 years and older. The older students follow the syllabus as prescribed by Judo New Zealand, whilst the younger students have a syllabus specially designed to address the different phases in the development of the child. It follows the guidelines laid down by Judo New Zealand, and is aimed specifically at teaching young judo players sound basic skills to be used either in a competitive career or in judo as a social activity in the future.
The “junior” syllabus makes provision for grading up to 3
rd kyu (green belt), after which the syllabus for senior grades applies.
